Serial Thief Caught on Camera Checking Car Doors and Stealing Booze

A repeat offender has been caught on camera stealing from multiple shops in Huntingdon and attempting to break into cars, despite already being banned from touching vehicles he does not own. Ricky Homer, 38, was filmed committing thefts and vehicle-related crimes between January 24 and March 3 before being arrested and sentenced to prison.

Caught on Camera: Theft and Car Tampering

CCTV footage captured Homer stealing from several businesses, including:

  • Marks and Spencer and Aldi in Huntingdon
  • Co-Op on Great North Road, St Neots

During his crime spree, he stole steak, pasta, and alcohol from these stores on four different occasions.

On March 3, he was also recorded:

  • Opening the door of a black Volvo on Priory Road, St Neots
  • Trying multiple car door handles in Hawkesford Way

Breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order

Homer was already under a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) issued in September 2023, which included the following restrictions:

  • Banned from all Huntingdonshire Business Against Crime (HBAC) stores
  • Restricted from entering Hinchingbrooke Hospital estate without a medical need
  • Prohibited from accessing Cambridgeshire Police Headquarters unless for an appointment
  • Forbidden from touching or entering any unattended vehicle without the owner’s permission

His latest offences violated this order, adding to his list of charges.

Court Ruling and Sentencing

At Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on March 5, Homer pleaded guilty to:

  • Four counts of shoplifting
  • Two counts of vehicle interference
  • Handling stolen goods
  • Breach of his Criminal Behaviour Order

He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison for his repeated offences.

Police Statement on Repeat Offenders

PC Bradleigh Bucknell, who investigated the case, commented:

“Homer is a prolific criminal with a catalogue of previous convictions. It is disappointing to see when someone doesn’t learn from their previous actions, despite spending time in prison.

For as long as Homer continues to offend and not change his ways, we will continue to put him before the courts.”

Despite previous convictions and legal restrictions, Ricky Homer continued to commit theft and vehicle-related crimes in Huntingdon and St Neots. His CCTV-recorded offences led to another conviction, resulting in a 20-week prison sentence. Police have assured the public that they will continue to take action against repeat offenders who refuse to change their ways.
